OPENING APRIL 7 AT 15H IN PRESENCE OF THE ARTISTS

Matthias Knockaert

Matthias Knockaert explores the field of tension between painting, sculpture, and architecture. This results, on the one hand, in small wall objects. They take the form of scale models influenced by architectural components. They also function as small painterly compositions within three dimensions
On the other hand, Matthias Knockaert creates paintings that fold into space, appearing as sculpture or architecture. These are paintings that deny being a painting or, conversely, affirm that a painting, in addition to being an illusion, is also a tangible material object.

The overly full sheet of paper

There is nothing more difficult than starting with a blank sheet of paper. But how to conceive the overly full sheet of paper? Renaud designs and draws the edge between structure and chaos, creating not a foreboding but a completely finished product.A product that gradually evolves from his love of interiors and architecture, stripped of colour but no less colourful for that. The format determines the drawing. With clear lines and scratches, he achieves his goal.Razzle dazzling, the meaning merges into the form. As a result, in a world full of fast-moving media, we are forced to stand still in front of his work, and truly look.

SOLO SHOW MATTHIEU LOBELLE
02.03- 31.03.2024

OPENING 3 MARCH AT 15H IN THE PRESENCE OF THE ARTIST.

In the work of Matthieu Lobelle, the artist confronts the contemporary viewer with the past.  Lots of change but little evolution. He also investigates the relationship between culture (humanity) and nature in which the starting position of “Man as a central factor” is questioned.

The images in Matthieu’s work are usually the result of observation of the environment, the walk around it, a memory or conversation from the past or based on images from history, which are related to contemporary problems.

The house is a metaphor for people and the archive (memory) symbolizes the bearer of history. The stone as a carrier of the past, the shape and color as a universal communicator. The landscape of form works here as a metaphor of thinking, the constantly moving thoughts, fantasies, memories from which the parallel world of visual art arises. The world is a backdrop and we play a role in it.

Exploring the world of the observable. He sees life as a journey, a walk, on the shoulders of millions of years of nature. The current era with all its current events and priorities is a deception for him. The bluestone of a worktop in the kitchen: that it contains millions of years of history, that fascinates him, and that we treat it far too carelessly, we think that is normal, but is it? Hasn’t man in recent centuries placed himself a little too confidently above nature and declared himself God?

He speaks in different languages about the same things….
